Gleason is keeping pace with record demand and shorter leadtimes with advanced coatings equipment and an ultra-modern facility. The new Balzers Model RCS Rapid Coating System can fully automate the application of all types of PVD thin film coatings in about half the time it takes with other advanced coatings systems.
The new unit complements the substantial coatings capability that already exists at Gleason, including multiple coatings systems and an automated, computer-controlled cleaning system. As a result, Gleason is able to build on Balzer’s proven coating technology, and take tool preparation and processing to a whole new level. In addition, Gleason insures that all substrates are in an optimum clean state prior to coating. Excessive coating buildup from continuous recoating can lead to a degradation in performance. Gleason can strip PVD coatings from HSS and carbide substrates with no damage to the surface layer.
These investments are just part of Gleason’s Lean Transformation, which has enabled the company to slash deliveries on its products – while at the same time accommodating record demand from around the world.

AlCroNite® Pro, Aluminum Chromium Nitride: Offers the highest oxidation temperature of any popular commercial coating along with high hardness, making it the best option for dry cutting applications. Also performs well in aggressive wet cutting applications.
Chemical Coating Stripping: Most common PVD coatings can be safely stripped from steel and cemented carbide substrates. Unlike most chemical processes, there is no cobalt leaching of cemented carbides.
