30.11 Flank Form Corrections

Uniflex manufactured straight bevel or face gears can be measured on a CMM
with a CMM download-file which contains surface coordinates and surface
normal vectors. Download-files for Coniflex or Coniface designs which have
been designed and optimized in the UNICAL program contain corrective infor-
mation for the Gleason G-AGE correction software. After a CMM inspection,
G-AGE calculates corrections for tooth depth, tooth thickness, spiral angle and
pressure angle. The corrections can be sent to the Phoenix cutting or grinding
machine via network or transferred with a USB memory stick. G-AGE can of
course also create a print-out of the basic setting machine correction, which
then can be keyed in the control manually.

Figure 45 shows the closed loop between design and production engineering,
the manufacturing machine and the coordinate measuring machine. The cen-
ter of the closed loop is a server on which the Gleason GEMS networking
software resides. The Uniflex MMC software offers the “Master Summary” fea-
ture which allows adding any number of corrections to the basic settings in the
course of the life of a job. After corrections are applied, the machine screen
shows the basic settings before and after the correction. This feature shows
the advantage of Uniflex versus the use of 5-axis machines. The communica-
tion between machine and operator is made in the common “bevel gear lan-
                   guage”.
