Swing overtravel heel and toe is preferred versus additional withdraw, be-
cause it results in more harmonic process motions and is faster than a tool
withdrawal (see Figure 7, Top Graphic).

The input item index clearance is added (or subtracted) to the default index
position, which is calculated by the software.

Index interval has the same function as it is known from standard spiral bevel
gear summaries. The input “0” and “1” do not activate any skip index, consecu-
tive slots are machined. If the input is for example “2”, then every other tooth is
skipped when the machine indexes to the next slot to be machined (slot
1,3,5...). It is recommended to use “0” as input.

In cases when a fin is observed at the root bottom, the feature fin removal can
be activated. This feature will only work after each second cut flank. This
means if all lower flanks are cut first, then the fin removal works after the cut-
ting of each upper flank. Fin removal amount is the amount the cutter moves
from the fillet of the second cut flank towards the first cut flank. For example, if
the smallest slot width (e.g. at midface) is 7mm and the blade top with is 3mm
then the cutter can maximally move 4mm sideways towards the fist cut flank
until it contacts the first cut root fillet. A typical input is 0.6mm fin removal
amount and 6 fin removal passes (6▪0.6=3.6mm) which leaves 0.4mm clear-
ance to the first cut root fillet.

Tooth depth change is like a tool advance or a tool holdback. For example if
–1.0mm is entered, then the tool tip is still 1.0mm away from full depth and the
                   flanks have about 0.34mm stock.

Excess slot width correction cuts or grinds a wider slot without any change to
                   the slot depth.

Excess slot depth cuts or grinds a deeper slot without any change to the
                   tooth thickness.

Mounting distance is the distance from the seating shoulder to the crossing
point of face gear and pinion axis. It can be found in the part print.

The thicknesses of sleeves and adaptors which might be used in connection
with the main arbor are added to the arbor distance and entered as one single
                   item arbor distance.
