                   tem. The photo in Figure 4 shows a Pentac Aero cutter head with the typical
                   wide shoulders on either the inside or the outside blades.

                   When the heavy truck manufacturing industry showed interest in applying Pen-

                   tac Aero cutter heads, the wide blades with the useless volumes of expensive
                   carbide became a subject of criticism. At this time, Gleason began to re-think
                   the topic of parallel spacers and possibilities to implement them into the Pen-
                       ®

                   tac  cutter system by preserving the unique stiffness advantages of Pentac .


                   27.3  From Wide Shoulders to Parallel Spacers

                   The  elimination  of  wide  blade  blanks  and  wide  unused  blade  shoulders  is
                   demonstrated  in  Figure  5.  In  the  upper  left  graphics  of  Figure  5  an  inside
                   blade with a wide shoulder at the inside and a clearance edge cutoff shows a
                   very unbalanced blade with a 20% waste of carbide.
