the dominating importance of the positive seating and the static and dynamic
stiffness it provides, further developments and parameter studies were con-
ducted.
The results of those studies is shown in Figure 8. Seating 2 is extended to the
solid backup surfaces (seating 1) which are in contact with the ground side
walls of the cutter head slots. The connecting screw and the additional force
from the blade clamping screw lock the spacer block into the corner between
seating 1 and seating 2. This solid connection provides radial and tangential
stiffness which is only known from a one-piece cutter body without spacer
blocks. Cutting trials confirmed the theoretical studies and delivered excellent
results regarding surface finish and tool life. The truability of cutter heads with

spacer blocks according to Figure 8 is identical to standard Pentac Plus-RT
cutters.
