28.3 Cycle Selection
The procedure of building the blades to the correct height remains un-
changed compared to a standard cutter head which is not trueable. Use the
tab “Cutter Head Setup” in the cycle selection screen (see Figure 4). Follow
the standard instructions for building a cutter to height on the CB machine.
During this process torque the front screw to the specified torque. The back
screw should just be touching the blade without any noticeable torque.
Figure 4: Cycle selection – Cutter Head Setup
Sliding the blades very gentle against the carbide stop of the CB machine
before torquing the clamp screw is extremely important. About 15% of the
blade tips are slightly damaged if the blade sliding is done fast and forceful-
ly. Another important and often underestimated aspect during the blade set-
ting to height and torquing is the direction in which the handle of the torque
wrench points. In average, 15% of the blade tips of a freshly build cutter
head show small chips if the wrench handle points in the 12’o clock position.
Figure 5 visualizes that the force on the wrench handle in combination with
the elasticity of the cutter head body as well as the compliance of the bear-
ings and other cutter spindle components causes movement of the blade to
