The cutting edge in the example has a radius of curvature (Curved Blade) and
a straight Toprem™ (Toprem Angle and Toprem Depth) as well as a straight
Flankrem Angle and Flankrem Depth). Toprem and Flankrem Angle are de-
fined relative to the pressure angle at the reference point [1].

The traditional way of blade contour measurement utilizes the five points indi-
cated in Figure 6, measured with pins. Modern three-face blades are meas-
ured at 7 points. The traditional measurement device is the Gleason No. 562
shown to the left in Figure 7. The No. 562 applies vertical pins to contact cut-
ting edge and clearance side, while the blade lies in a fixture under the appro-
priate Blade Slot Tilt Angle of the cutter head for which the blade grinding
summary, and the point calculation has been conducted (see right side of Fig-
ure 7). The blade position in the No. 562 Fixture emulates the blade position in
the cut. The vertical pins capture the relevant cutting-edge coordinates as if
they were projected into the cutting plane of Figure 1. As a result, the mathe-
matical complexity is reduced because the No. 562 points in Figure 6 are also
                   defined in the cutting plane.
