cutting plane. All definitions and designations of the chip forming section of
blades (including the clearance side) which follow in this manual base their
angles on the cutting plane. For example, one degree of change in the direc-
tion of the cutting plane will change some blade property also by one degree. If
the cutting velocity vector points 2° up (+2° kinematic top rake velocity angle)
instead of being horizontal, that will reduce the top rake angle by 2°. The top
rake angle makes the tip of the blade sharp if it is positive or makes it dull in
                   case of a negative value.

Figure 2: Effective value section in three-face blade summary

The Effective Value section of the three-face blade grinding summary is
shown in Figure 2. The values of particular interest are the Kinematic Top
Rake Velocity Angle, the Effective Cutting Edge Hook Angle and the Ef-
                   fective Cutting Side Rake Angle.

                   22.2 Stick Blade Types

Rectangular blade sticks like shown in Figure 3 are the older style blade sticks
used by Gleason in RSR® and TRI-AC® cutter heads. This blade type is still in
use today, but the state-of-the-art blade design are the Gleason Pentac®
                   blade sticks.
