The Pfauter Group becomes part of Gleason Corporation. Renaming to Gleason Pfauter Hurth Cutting Tools Corporation.

Acquisition of the tool manufacturing division of Illinois Tool Works, Chicago, Illinois. Installation of next generation coating equipment.

Acquisition of Cleveland Cutter and Reamer Co. of Cleveland, Ohio.

1987

Pfauter-Maag Cutting Tools L.P. established with the purchase of the tool division of the Barber Colman Company (est. 1894).

Presentation of the patented Wafer Shaper Cutter.

1982

First USA gear tool company to apply in-house PVD wear coatings to cutting tools.

The Windsor Road facility is built, today´s location of Gleason Cutting Tools Corporation.

1919

First commercially sold Barber Colman automatic index cutter sharpener becomes a breakthrough for the tool industry and leads to the increased manufacturing and servicing of hobs, form cutters, and thread milling cutters.

1908

Manufacture of hobs and milling cutters to support the production of higher precision machinery. Start to market these tools to meet the industry’s demand for more accurate gear and profile cutting tools.

1894

Howard Colman founds Barber Colman Company in Rockford, Illinois. He invents the hand knotter, known as the Warp Tying Machine. Barber Colman later diversifies into milling cutters.
