The depth of a tooth space below the pitch circle or pitch line. It is normally greater than the addendum of the mating gear to provide clearance. It is the radial distance between the pitch circle and the root circle. On bevel and hypoid gears it is understood to be at the outer ends of the teeth of the gear member unless otherwise specified.<\/div>
